Is Getting Married in Turkey Legal for Foreigners?
All marriages in Turkey must be performed under the authority of the Turkish Civil Code to be legally recognized. The Turkish Civil Code provides for various rights and obligations for the Turkish citizens, but also for foreigners. So if foreigners have the required qualifications, getting married in Turkey is so easy for them. But religious ceremonies are not legally recognized in Turkey. What is the Requirements to Get Married in Turkey?
The foreigners who want to get married in Turkey must have the following minimum qualifications:
- Being 18 years old or older (it depends),
- Not be mental illness,
- Not be close relatives to his/her future spouses,
- If he/she was married before, it is necessary to present a proof of divorce or marriage dissolution.
- Women must wait 300 days until they will marry again.

Which Documents Do You Need?
Marriage in Turkey documents needed vary depending on the situation, your country and language. However, in general required documents for getting married in Turkey are following as:
- Petition of the Marriage,
- Passport and Birth Certificate,
- Health Certificate,
- Six Passport Size Photos,
- Certificate of Celibacy (Certificate of Capacity to Marry),
- Accommodation Document. (If both partners are foreigners).
Language, Country, Apostille and Embassy Problems
Different languages may require different methods. For example, if the Latin Alphabet is not used in a language, the approval process of the requested documents may change.
Although the documents presented in the English language are generally accepted, the law of the country of citizens may not accept that. Because that country may have created different conditions to approve.
